Train Collision in California

On September 12, a Metrolink passenger train, carrying homebound commuters, crashed head-on into a Union Pacific freight train in Chatsworth, California in the San Fernando Valley. Metro link?s train 111 was en route from Los Angeles? Union station to Moor Park. Around 4:23 PM the train had just left Chatsworth Station, when the engine of a freight train crashed into the front of the metro link carriage. Both the trains derailed.

It is reported that at least 18 people have been killed and more than 135 of the trains 225 passengers have been injured. Over 100 passengers have been transported to hospitals, by ambulance and by helicopter. It is reported that of these 45 people sustained critical injuries. One of the train?s three cars was sent keeling into its side. Officials do not know why the accident occurred and how two trains were at the same place at the same time.
