: Legal Pad | LAFormer Sony Pictures attorney James Jackson sentenced for abusing his maid

The former vice president of legal affairs at Sony Pictures and his wife were sentenced for enslaving their maid, the Associated Press reports. James Jackson received a sentence of 200 hours community service and a $5,000 fine while his wife, Elizabeth Jackson, received three years in prison.
Nena Ruiz claims over several months at the couple's Culver City condominium she was regularly slapped and had her hair pulled, was forced to work 18 hour days a week and to sleep on a dog bed and was given three day old food to eat. Elizabeth Jackson allegedly brought Ruiz from the Philippines in 2001 and confiscated her passport, the Los Angeles Times report. She received a $825,000 in damages from a jury in 2004.
