Scheduled Execution in Texas

Texas is scheduled to execute Michael Rodriguez shortly after 6:00 p.m., tonight in Huntsville.  AP reports, "'Texas 7' fugitive volunteering to die Thursday," via the San Antonio Express-News.  It will be the eighth execution in Texas in 2008; the state's 413th execution since 1982. It will be the 20th execution of 2008 in America; the 1,119th execution since 1977.  Texas has far and away the busiest death chamber in the nation, having carried out more than 36% of all the executions in the country since 1977. According to TDCJ, 11 more executions are scheduled in the state this year, including two more this month.
