Tennessee Dog Bite Laws

By Rob McKinney

ADVERTISEMENTS

Who gets the first bite the dog or the young child playing with the dog ? Animal attacks or dog bite cases seem to happen all the time . Under Tennessee law, a owner of a dog has a duty to keep that dog under reasonable control at all times, and to keep that dog from running at large. A person that breaches that duty is subject to civil liability for damages suffered by a person who is injured by the dog in a public place or lawfully in or on the private property of another. Tennessee Code Annotated Section 44-8-413 sets forth the complete liability of animal or dog bite cases. Also, local governments have laws that can be more restrictive than the state law. Dog bites cause significant injuries to young children. lets be on the alert when a child is playing with a dog.
