Indiana Travel Expense Rates

By Michael Progar

ADVERTISEMENTS
If an injured employee is requested or required to submit to medical treatment outside the county of employment, or is requested to submit to a medical examination, the employer is required to pay the employee's reasonable expenses of travel, food and lodging necessary, in an amount not to exceed the amount paid by the State of Indiana under current state travel policies and procedures.

At the present time, Indiana's mileage reimbursement rate is $0.40 per mile. The per diem rate for meals within the state is $26.00. The lodging rate is $79.00 plus tax ($93.00 in Indianapolis). In addition, the employer must reimburse the employee for any resulting loss of wages based on the employee's average daily wage.

The rates are determined from time to time by the State Budget Director, and may obtained from the Indiana Department of Administration, Travel Management Office.
