What I did on my summer vacation, part I

ADVERTISEMENTS
Part I of my vacation, that is. Part II will be in August.

I cleaned and did laundry.

I went to the gym.

I sprained my ankle and spent the next three days on the couch.

I read lots of books, made some progress on the Rubik's cube, and learned how to fold an origami duck and penguin.

I took K to a wildlife sanctuary, where he was entirely uninterested in seeing the turtles and instead sat on the ground collecting sticks and poking me with them.

I took my two new suits to get altered. When they're done, I'll have three suits.

I had lunch with various friends, and a fancy belated birthday lunch with JW.

I made a new friend, I think.

I tried my hand at rugelach and Boston Cream cake (also known as "pie"). The rugelach were a huge hit. Everyone raved about them and they disappeared quickly. Personally, I think bakery versions are better. The Boston Cream was pretty bad. My pastry cream (which I was attempting for the first time) was lumpy and tasted like vanilla pudding. The cake was tough -- I didn't have time to make it at home, and my mother-in-law only had 2/3 of a cup of flour in the house. And I improvised the chocolate glaze, which was like a thick layer of melted chocolate. I went through with the whole mess at JW's request despite the lack of time and ingredients, but I'll try it again soon for real.

I called the clinical office at school and they said they might be able to hook me up with an externship at the AG's office next semester.

Vacation is over, for now. Today was my second day at The Firm. I had forgotten how much I like it there.
