Obama Campaign Urges Online Audience To Lobby The Facebook Superdelegate Vote

By Ryan Singel, Kevin Poulsen, Sarah Lai Stirland, Kim Zetter, and David Kravets

ADVERTISEMENTS

He may be in the lead, but Sen. Barack Obama's campaign isn't pausing for breath when it comes to lobbying the superdelegates needed in order to win his party's presidential nomination.

Today, the senator won the support of Reps. Rick Larson of Washington and Brad Miller of North Carolina after a cruise through Congress.

The Illinois senator's Thursday stop comes after his campaign urged its web site audience to lobby two college Democrats who are superdelegates, and who have yet to declare their endorsements. Obama_300x

The Obama campaign on Wednesday published a front-page link to a lobbying note from one of its supporting groups Students for Obama.

Staffers published a letter from 21-year-old Marquette University  junior Jason Rae to Lauren Wolfe and Awais Khaleel two student peers, who head up College Democrats for America. The missive urged the duo to come out and make their preferences public and included the two students' e-mail addresses.

Given that Obama has won much of the youth vote in most of the nominating contests in the presidential primary process, it isn't hard to guess who the two are going to pick.

And, notes Mike Connery, author of the new book "Youth To Power," statistics show that the younger end of the youth demographic tend to skew toward Obama.

But the two may be withholding their announcement because they'd like to hang on to as much political clout as they can on behalf of their constituency, for as long as they can, with the campaigns, he says.

THREAT LEVEL followed up with Wolfe and Khaleel asking them about the feedback they've received from the YouTube video they made earlier this month. The video features the two asking young voters who they should endorse.

Wolfe told THREAT LEVEL that she'd  "love" to speak with us. However, the  Democratic National Committee put the kibosh on the request, citing a scheduling conflict as the reason.
