Back in Indy

I have returned to Indianapolis for the third time. The generous plaintiff?s lawyer has agreed to pay the expenses of travel to this fine city so his clients can stay here and not come to Memphis and I get some reviews and see if I can avoid getting sick again. (Running out of stuff to review).

So far, so good. Not a peep out of the stomach. That?s even with having started glucophage a week ago for having insulin twice above the normal range after about two months on a very low carb diet. It?s a bit less frigid then the last time which was epic and I believe near zero.

I snagged the Hyatt Regency off priceline for 81 a night. A nice enough place but not deserving of four stars. A bit of a cramped room with inadequate lighting. Also a ton of outrageous extra charges floating around. No free internet and the bottled water is $2.75!!!!

The first night after arriving I decided to try St. Elmo?s steakhouse a Indianapolis institution with pictures on the wall. The steak was a 14 once ribeye. It came with a navy bean soup which was acceptable and a bread bowl that was much like you find at the Kroger store which I found perplexing with the unsalted butter which is usually the mark of a fancy place.

The steak was good, but not great. Well done to medium rare and not overly aged in a nauseous way like the one at Ruth Chris the previous time it was enjoyable. Was it better than Outback? Well, no. That?s a hard one to catch. I?m not saying its superb The Daily Grill, Circa, and Encore all manage to beat it but it?s a good one and fifteen bucks cheaper than the one at St. Elmo?s. The creamy horseradish likewise was much better at outback with the St. Elmo?s version having a slight mayonnaisey tinge and texture.

The next night I went to McCormick and Schmidts a somewhat upscale seafood house that was quite good. I had a crabcake that was chocked full of lump crabmeat and a San Francisco seafood stew that was well done and the tomato base was a welcome change from the butter typically used to dip seafood.

The next night I went to the Rathskeller the oldest restaurant in Indianapolis that specialized in German. I had wienerschnietzel and with red cabbage and spatzel. All of which was awfull the spatzel was stale, the cabbage just cabbage, and the schnitzel soggy with a yucky sauce on top. I am beginning to think I should institute a rule against oldest restaurants real tourist traps.
Anyway, when not throwing up in potted plants Indianapolis is an okay place, nothing to get excited about, but definitely something to aspire too(especially the pervasive brew pubs), and the downtown tourist maps mounted to the sidewalk are something we should copy.
