FAMILY LAW: Vermont Court orders a divorce litigant to quit blogging about their pending divorce

By Michael Stevens

ADVERTISEMENTS

Indiana Law Blog [HUSBAND POSTS ABOUT PENDING DIVORCE IN BLOG, COURT ORDERS POSTING REMOVED] has reported that a Vermont "court has ordered the husband to stop posting blog items about his wife and their crumbled marriage, possibly turning an ordinary divorce into a much broader battle over free speech on the Internet."

updated:  It appears that a lesson can be learned from haste and good intentions.  I try to give credit where credit is due and refer to the source of my posts from newspapers and other blogs and blawgs.  However, a reader reminded me that the following reference made it sound like a court ordered a post to be removed from the "from" blawgs.

Nothing could be further from the truth.... The titled post was reported at the Divorce Law Journal and at the Indiana Law Blog and thus was taken from them!

Gadzooks!  The time I do a quickie comes back to kick me.  Here is the old post.  Apologies to the bloggers Marcia Oddi and Diana Skaggs, who are probably enjoying a minor heart palpitation with their morning coffee, followed by a smile.  (Hopefully!)

Court Orders Blog Post By Divorce Litigant Removed FROM DIVORCE LAW JOURNAL AND INDIANA LAW BLOG.

Without going into the details and not wishing to draw further attention to the parties or those involved, please note that Kentucky already has had one family case in which the litigant posted details on the matter and openly criticized the courts in the process.
