: Structured Settlements 4RealSettlement Planner's Credential Hype is Misleading
By John Darer
A member of the bar and a settlement planner has claimed in advertising legal and insurance services that he is "board certified" by the National Structured Settlement Trade Association and that "he earned his "board certification" and the designation of Certified Structured Settlement Consultant (CSSC) from the University of Notre Dame".
To claim that the CSSC means that the settlement planner is "board certified" is misleading at best.
The Certified Structured Settlement Consultant Designation is a professional designation, NOT A BOARD CERTIFICATION, offered by the National Structured Settlement Trade Association (NSSTA) in conjunction with the Executive program at the University of Notre Dame. To qualify for the designation candidates must be members of NSSTA, successfully complete a course of study culminating in a comprehensive examination covering such topics as insurance casualty claims practice, state and federal laws pertaining to tort settlements, medical reversionary trusts, special needs trusts, macroeconomics, the art of negotiation and business ethics.
It is a shame that this very bright and otherwise highly qualified individual has chosen to engage in needless false advertising.
