Speaking Out for Transparency in Texas Execution Process

"Texans deserve the truth on death penalty policies," is the title of Joseph R. Larsen's OpEd in the Austin American-Statesman.  Larsen is an attorney with Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold in Houston, Texas, and the recipient  of the 2010 James Madison Award by the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas. As a long-time veteran of open government battles, I know the power that the state has to keep information from its citizens and make decisions behind closed doors. Sometimes, this power must be exercised. More often, it should not. For when the government acts in secret, and refuses to answer questions from the people it serves, democracy cannot function.
