: Garrett Worley's BlawgUsing Google Apps for E-Mail and Scheduling
By Garrett Worley
Even a small firm will have to address the issue of scheduling at some point. This becomes even more necessary when you’re collaborating with outside attorneys on a matter. While there are a number of program options for e-mail and scheduling management, Charles Smith at Law.com finds that Google Apps offers the most for his firm. (Read Charles Smith’s article on Google Apps here.)
Among the features that Smith finds most useful is Google Apps’ enhanced version of Gmail, which provides users with plenty of storage space and real time instant messaging. The scheduling component allows others to view and edit your schedule. (You can, of course, restrict access to this.) Google Apps is also web-based, so you can access your e-mail and schedule from any computer with an internet connection. Finally, Smith notes that the security of Google’s servers makes it a better bet than self-hosting a program.
