: Chuck NewtonUCI Law Rises To The Top Of The Heap
By Chuck Newton
The University of California - Irvine School of Law, which will not even open its doors until the fall, has already become the "most selective of any law school in the nation". In a news release the law school states it accepted only 4 percent of the 2,741 people who
applied for admission to its founding class, compared to a 7 percent
acceptance rate at Yale and 9 percent at Stanford. It also claims in the release that the law school?s yield rate, or
the percentage of admitted students who choose to attend, is 62
percent, with 68 students committing to come from 110 who were
accepted. This is second only to Harvard Law School, which has a 68
percent yield rate, and Yale, with a 78 percent rate, according to
(American Bar Association data.).
How did UCI achieve such a thing?
Well it set out to build a quality public law school. Top staff. Top professors. Accreditation is not certain, but it is also not doubted given the resources being directed at the new program. The school has built excitement.
But, along with this it has proposed a FREE legal education to its entering class. Three years of legal education for free.
I think it proves a point. If you want to attract the best and the brightest students to attend your law school, stop offering them $100,000 costs for a legal education, stop offering them uncertainty and the prospect of lifetime debt for the privilege. Instead, provide the top students the tools they need to achieve. Build a law school, make it essentially free, and you will be in the top law schools in the country.
ARE YOU LISTENING UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON LAW CENTER!!!!!!! (UH is doing the opposite. It wants to buy its way into the top 10 law schools ranking system by making its quality students pay an extra proposed $4,000.00 more a year so it can add an addition to its design winning law center).
