FREE Blogs?

ADVERTISEMENTS

Thinkerblog Oh dear.  This is going to get me in trouble with someone I deeply respect.  But, Susan Cartier Liebel is offering FREE blogs at Solo Practice University?

Now I do not mean to pick, but I guess I am a little bit of a gadfly.  I know what Susan means.  She means that the blogs are without expense or money to you.  And, that is good.  Susan is doing what has never really been done before.  She is creating Solo Practice University, which is to be a web-based educational and networking community for lawyers and law students.  Solos, small groups of lawyers and law students looking for the realities of the practice are well overlooked and have unique issues.  They need a place to come up to speed quickly on a lot of matters.  They need a place to experience diverse opinions on the practice.  They need a place to bethink, to measure, to cogitate and speculate and deliberate.  Susan is trying to bring some cohesiveness, some fellowship, some commonality, some predagogics, some ecumenical mixture to us plebeians.  Well, she can explain it to you better than I can, so check it out online if you will.

In that regard, and with a sense of altruism in pursuing this task, Susan has decided to make blogging easily available to you as part of the Solo Practice University community.

But, I do not care what anybody says, or what they call it, blogging is not FREE.  There might not be money flying off your debit card for it, but it requires much of you.  It requires your time and your talent.  It requires you to expose your protected thoughts to the public at large.  It requires the ability to be more unrestricted, more open-door.  It requires you to believe, to think, and to hold forth a sense of yourself for the rest of us to see and study - and at times criticize.  More importantly it requires you to write, to create, to educate, to produce, to become a market place of value, and to provide a willingness or openness to be formed by an artistic effort.  It requires you to book your ideas, to catalog your questions, to enroll in the possibility that you might find some answers or help someone out.  There is a requirement that you constantly inscribe that which we all need to see and hear and read in order to believe that we as a group can and will thrive, and that which we do is right.

My thought is to go ahead and accept this gracious gift from Susan.  She is right, it is without expense.  It is not FREE, however, because with it comes responsibility - a duty really.  Not so much a burden, but a commitment.  An obligation of sorts.  An impost of a little bit of your time, a little image of your spirit, and some fragments of your thoughts that might provide us all with a little deliverance from our dubiety and our conceit.  Maybe, just maybe, some crumbs of  lore to help satisfy our hunger, or a jigger of sagacity to quench our thirsty mentality.

No, it is a gift.  It is without expense.  But, it is not FREE.  Please use it wisely, and pay forward that which is being provided to you by honestly and deliberately using that which is being provide to you.
