: Chuck NewtonCalling Cards (And I Do Not Mean Cards That Provide Free Telephone Minutes)
By Chuck Newton
No ... not phone cards ... not gift cards ... not business cards. We are talking about old fashion Victorian calling cards. In the old days when you went to pay a call you would see the person you were calling on and your leave a card announcing your presence in a new town, or that you returned after a trip, or that you were leaving town (in which case you would right PPC for pour prendre conge or I am leaving). They were used primarily to improve one's social standing or to introduce an unmarried daughter to someone with an eligible son. After receiving a card or a visitor, the lady of the house was obligated to return the call, either in person or with a card. Of course, we are not concerned here or in this time with either leaving town or introducing our daughters about. We are concerned with introducing ourselves for purposes of gaining business.
Calling cards are intended overcoming the cluttered tech of email and social marketing with a no tech solution for being remembered. After all, that is the objective in network and relationship marketing, is it not?
As Time Magazine is reporting on the new practice of delivering Victorian-like calling cards.
The new practice is designed to overcome technology fatigue, and it is a colorful way of branding.
At one company, Crane & Co. sales of calling cards has doubled in th past two years.
Most calling cards are bigger than business cards and they usually come in bright colors. It provides a sense of presence and an opportunity for self-expression.
Some say that calling cards are more better remembered than are just plain business cards.
