: Law Practice ManagementBeware the Kama Sutra PowerPoint Presentation
I’m a long-time reader of Woody’s Office Watch. Over the years I’ve gotten many tips and tricks on how to do — or undo – things in Microsoft products. More importantly, I have always gotten the straight scoop about Microsoft products, the good, the bad, and on occasion the unbelievably ugly. Woody’s is one of the sources I trust to help me determine when a new version of Microsoft software is relatively stable enough for my clients to install.
A recent post entitled “Kama Sutra presentation is malware” warns of a new email threat which delivers a PowerPoint with a mean payload. If you run the attachment, you?ll see the promised presentation unaware that a Trojan called Troj/Bckdr-RFM is installed on your computer to let hackers see files on your computer or use it to run other programs, like sending spam or launching network attacks.
The lesson? Nothing we haven’t said here, and that hasn’t been said elsewhere, repeatedly. Don’t be tempted to willingly open attachments, even from known sources, unless you are expecting them, or verify that they came from the source they appear to come from, and are legitimate.
