Which Insurance Should I Use for My Virginia Property Damage Claim?

By Ben Glass

ADVERTISEMENTS

You need your car, there's really no way around it. Just because you are in a Virginia car accident and your vehicle is damaged, it doesn't mean your children's soccer games stop or doctor appointments are no longer needed. You have to be able to get to your daily destinations, so who wants to wait a long time to get his or her car repaired?

You really only have two options.
If you have been involved in a Virginia auto accident, you may be wondering what you should do about your damaged vehicle. Do you go through the other driver's insurance company to have it fixed? Or do you contact your own auto insurance?

I recommend that you submit the claim to your own insurance company. You already have a long-term relationship with your insurer, so the process should go more smoothly. You will have to pay a deductible, but you should be able to eventually get that back from the other driver's insurance company.

Don't let your property damage claim be held hostage.
When you are dealing with the other driver's insurance company for property damage, you need to be aware that the adjuster will be looking for details about your personal injury. The insurance adjuster might even hold your property damage claim hostage.

Save yourself the aggravation with your property damage claim and go through your own insurance company.
