CHP made last contact with the plane at 10:24 a.m.
The officer was alone in the aircraft and there were no injuries on the ground.
Officers handling the case out of the CHP El Centro office have not identified the pilot of the plane.
The location of the plane crash was Ocotillo Wells, which is on the border of San Diego and Imperial Counties, southwest of the Salton Sea.
