In the midst of more than 400 reports of potential adverse events and more than 20 potential deaths associated with heparin, Baxter International announced an expanded recall of heparin-related products.
This Baxter recall includes all vials of eparin sodium for injection and all heparin flush products. The latter, however, have not been linked to adverse events. The recall covers both multi-dose and single-dose vials.
Baxter buys supplies for the recalled heparin products from a Chinese plant that the FDA said on Thursday had ?potential deficiencies.? Although Baxter manufactures a significant portion of the United States heparin supply, federal officials predict the other major supplier would be able to meet the national demand.
