Just Lunches

By "Trading David"

ADVERTISEMENTS

Auntie came to town and I decided to try Just Lunch a new place where the old Elfo's used to be. A classic southern tea time lunch place the society wannabe crowd seemed to love with classics prepared at stiff prices.

I started with the red bell pepper bisque which was thick and very good. Served with a round cheese straw that was really good.

I had the lobster ravioli special which was excellent, though expensive. Not skimpy on the lobster. The alfredo sauce was also good, which is a stumbling block for alot of places that rely on a corn starchy alfredo rather than a proper reduction.

Aunt had the quiche of the day which seemed very creamy and Aunt was afraid was undercooked, though she said she loved it. I took a nibble and it was a very respectable quiche. We both agreed the tomato aspic was weird.

For dessert we split the caramel bread pudding which was prepared with wheat bread that gave it a great nutty flair.

Overall, a very solid place if you don't mind the prices.

The next day I went with my masonic buddies Short Artist and Studly Attorney to Studly Attorney's father in law's cattle farm (SA married a vegetarian) in Fayette where we experimented with the trajectory paths of objects placed over confined slow explosives.

After experimentation we all went to the Wolf River Cafe in Rossville. Previously SA and I had sampled the hushpuppies as an appetizer which were very good.

This time we all had the hamburgers and fried mushroom appetizer. The fried mushrooms were solid though food service. Well cooked.

The hamburgers were well done and charred on the outside without being dry. The cheese was a flavorful cheddar with some really good bacon to accompany and a toasted bun. (Wolf River means with Bacon).

We all finished with lemon icebox pie which was the best I think I've ever had. Its rare to find a real icebox pie with little hints of ice in the filling to add a sparkle to the mouthfull with a clean completly non-artificial lemon taste .
