Best Paralegal Assignment Ever: Researching Local Sushi

By Lynne DeVenny

ADVERTISEMENTS
"I never eat sushi. I have trouble eating things that are merely unconscious." ~ George Carlin

Truth or fiction? A paralegal for a fancy New York firm once received an assignment from a partner to locate the best sushi in town.

No, not for a case - for the partner, because she couldn't find local sushi that met her exacting standards.

(Oh, you say you're that paralegal, only it was double cheeseburgers, not sushi?)

Good one. Seriously, we don't know if it's fact or fiction, only that Snopes.com thought it was a good enough story (albeit unverified) to share.

Anyway, you'll be either pleased or alarmed to learn that maybe the paralegal "responded to the request with alacrity, interviewing co-workers, conducting online research, and scanning Zagat reviews to generate a three-page memo (entitled "Sushi Options") complete with footnotes and exhibits."

Way to make the rest of us look like slackers, "Kimberly" (in case the paralegal who wouldn't return calls from the New York Times really didn't research and brief raw tuna).

"Kimberly" ends the memo with what I suspect would be a pointed jibe if only sarcasm translated in print, "I would hope you find the attached helpful in choosing the restaurant from which your dinner will be ordered on a going-forward basis."

Well, I would hope so, too.
