Free Tax Preparation

The United Way has launched a campaign to assist individuals in filing their tax returns. The requirements to qualify vary from State to State.

Most States eligibility level is: earned income of less than $42,000.00. In 2008, you can receive free tax preparation and may be eligible for an EITC refund of up to $4824.00.

Call your local UNITED WAY office 211 to see if your State is participating. Some States require you bring a coupon, your local office will tell you where you can pick up a coupon for the free tax preparation service.

If you qualify they request you bring: Valid Identification, Social Security Number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number cards for you, your spouse and your dependents, All 2008 W-2 and 1099 Forms you received, Daycare records, any other tax documents. Spouses both must be present if filing jointly.
