By Cleveland Law Library
Make sure to be aware of recent changes to the Ohio Rules of Appellate Procedure, the Ohio Rules of Criminal Procedure, and the Ohio Rules of Civil Procedure. The Ohio Supreme Court's Press Release outlines the changes in these rules as follows. In addition to allowing more than 1 judge on the appellate panel to sign a judgment, the Appellate rules require the courts to give parties notice of judgment filings and prepare their own judgment entries. The Criminal Rules allow for the use of video teleconferences and alternate jurors in non-capital cases. The Civil Rules change the procedures for reviving a dormant judgment, specifiy that discovery of electronic information is permitted and can be the subject of pretrial conferences, allow subpoenas for electronic discovery from non-parties, and give courts power to sanction electronic discovery abuses.
