Mexico is Helping Obama Enter the ?Impeachment Zone?

By Phil

ADVERTISEMENTS

That is, assuming that Barry falls for it.

Here’s how it went down:

First, Obama called up National Guard troops to head to our southern border (excerpted):

Obama called the Arizona law a 'misdirected effort, a misdirected expression of frustration over our broken immigration system.' Reuters

President Obama will deploy 1,200 National Guard troops and request an extra $500 million to secure the Mexican border, his administration said Tuesday, a move dismissed by Republicans as insufficient to win their cooperation on an overhaul of the nation’s immigration system.

By reinforcing the 340 Guard members already monitoring border crossings and analyzing intelligence, the initiative echoes 2006’s Operation Jump Start, in which President George W. Bushdevoted 6,000 guardsmen to a two-year commitment in support of the Border Patrol.

Then, the Mexican government reacted as such (excerpted; emphasis & h/t Prof. Jacobson):

Additionally, the Government of Mexico expects that National Guard personnel will strengthen US operations in the fight against transnational organized crime that operates on both sides of our common border and that it will not, in accordance to its legal obligations, conduct activities directly linked to the enforcement of immigration laws.

Please re-read the quoted paragraph again: Mexico is explicitly — and officially — saying that the President of the United States is not to use the National Guard to enforce federal immigration law. You do see that, correct?

OK, Mr. President, before you show your hand, remember that while Rhode Island did seriously consider (by a Democrat, no less) becoming the next State to enforce existing immigration laws against illegal immigrants (unfortunately, the State House Speaker wouldn’t let it into Committee, so it won’t be heard this year), there are still 16 other States that are filing paperwork similar to Arizona’s SB1070 (h/t ALIPAC):

ALIPAC has documented the following 17 states are following Arizona’s lead in response to citizen pressure.

ARKANSAS, IDAHO, INDIANA, MARYLAND, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEBRASKA, NEVADA, NEW JERSEY, OHIO, OKLAHOMA, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, SOUTH CAROLINA, TEXAS, UTAH

Since the Attorney General and Homeland Security Secretary won’t read the bill, check it out for yourself (PDF); there’s even a plain-English summary to imbibe while you’re at it. Be a good citizen and do it; we’ll go about voting out these imbeciles in 2010 and 2012.

Gov. Jan Brewer (R-AZ) Signs Controversial Immigration Enforcement Bill

Mr. Obama needs to think really, really hard regarding how he reacts to this move by a foreign country. As the saying goes, if we have no borders, then we have no country; it’s as simple as that. If he allows a foreign government to dictate how he as commander-in-chief uses the National Guard, I’d call that grounds for impeachment — as in, failing to protect America, regardless of what otherwise worthy countries like Mexico have to say.

Go do a Google search on Mexican immigration policy; you might be shocked by what you find. You thought press reports that alleged that SB1070 required asking for papers? How about the concept of law enforcement officials tossing you into jail if you are construed to be a threat to their national security? Heh, yeah. Go move to another country if you think America is so terrible.

Oh, yes — the Arizona law specifically forbids racial discrimination… and on top of everything else, my understanding is that it’s not even in force yet.

As a bit of an editorial note, while I did say that I wouldn’t be starting up my site again until after the end of June, this story just made me so PO’d that I had to go ahead and write something to get it off my chest. So, I’m getting started again well ahead of time. Everyone will just have to deal with my not being around at the end of next month for several days.
