Evening News: Eligibility Update, Tea-nami

By Phil

ADVERTISEMENTS

The previously-reported Congressional Research Service confirmed what most of us already knew — nobody ever confirmed Mr. Obama’s eligibility:

Not only this, but WorldNetDaily also showed where Congressman Brian Bilbray (R-CA) was essentially prepped — in documentation never meant to be made public — with alleged evidence from FactCheck — but nowhere else — regarding Mr. Obama’s eligibility.

Jerry Mansfield, Research Specialist, had this to say about the topic:

“I merely responded to a request from a congressional office to answer a constituent,” he said.

Asked why he did not balance his memo with published articles questioning Obama’s eligibility, Mansfield responded, “I reported what Hawaii Department of Health officials said because they were official statements made by government employees. There has been nothing official said by any official of government, so far as I know, supporting questions raised about Obama’s eligibility. So, there is no issue here.”

When WND asked Mansfield if it was his job, in writing the memo, to draw a conclusion for Bilbray, he objected.

“The attachments were articles in print,” he said. “I was simply trying to pass on what is in the press.”

Mansfield was reluctant to talk to the press, and he ended the call abruptly saying, “I am getting contacted by irate people over this memo. It was meant as an advisory to a member of Congress. It was never meant to be released to the public” …

Bilbray’s office did not respond to repeated WND requests for comment. Jeffrey Post in Bilbray’s office told WND he was not authorized to speak with the press.

Interesting. Nothing official has been said by any government official about eligibility, so therefore it must be a non-issue.

If only we could do the same thing about America’s national debt — just ignore it, and it will go away!

More recently, former Gov. Sarah Palin spoke a bit about presidential vetting:

And, once again, things could start heating up over the eligibility issue. Sharon Rondeau at The Post & Email, is threatening a lawsuit against Hawaii because they’ve apparently never responded to her repeated requests for copies of the Democrat Party nomination certificates for Mr. Obama.

Texas is also getting into the eligibility fray: Rep. Leo Berman has filed HB295 (in part):

“The secretary of state may not certify the name of a candidate for president or vice-president unless the candidate has presented the candidate’s original birth certificate indicating that the person is a natural-born United States citizen.”

The State Rep. went on to say the following:

Berman told WND he’s seen neither evidence nor indication that Obama actually qualifies under the Constitution’s requirement that a president be a “natural-born citizen,” a requirement not imposed on most other federal officers.

“If the federal government is not going to vet these people, like they vetted John McCain, we’ll do it in our state,” he said. He noted the Senate’s investigation into McCain because of the Republican senator’s birth in Panama to military parents.

Berman also said there will be pressure on any lawmaker who opposes the information plan, since voters would wonder why they wouldn’t want such basic data about a president revealed. And he said even if one state adopts the requirement, there will be national implications, because other states would be alerted to a possible problem. …

Berman said he’s convinced there are problems with Obama’s eligibility, or else his handlers would not be so persistent in keeping the information concealed.

But wait! There’s more:

A number of other states also have taken launched their own work on the subject:

  • Georgia has a plan by Rep. Mark Hatfield, House Bill 1516, introduced just as the last legislative session was closing. He told WND he expects to use it to create support for the plan when the legislature returns this winter.
  • New Hampshire had a proposal pending that would require candidates meet the “qualifications contained in the U.S. Constitution.”
  • Oklahoma had a proposal that would be a referendum for voters on the issue.
  • South Carolina had discussions over a plan to prohibit the name of a candidate on a ballot “unless that person shows conclusive evidence that he is a legal citizen of the United States.”
  • Several other states have discussed requirements for candidates but they did not specifically address the Article 2, Section 1 constitutional compliance so it’s unclear whether they would have addressed Obama’s situation.

Then there’s Rep. Bill Posey’s bill at the federal level.

Some of the above is old news, but what with Rep. Pelosi once again slated to be the Democrat’s face in the House (see below), there’ll be plenty of reason to get the statists out.

And now, the news:
