Just the Tax

Tax court may be for you!

There are many varieties of tax courts -- some are not even in the judicial branch. The version being pushed by tax attorneys in Georgia would encompass all the aforementioned concerns. It could also include a small-claims-type division for individuals (as opposed to businesses) involved in tax disputes.

There is also some thought that a specialized tax court would alleviate current civil dockets. Pretty soon, there will be a different court for everything. Gwinnett County, Georgia, just implemented a pilot business court. Fulton County has had a business court since 2005.

It seems to us that utilizing these existing courts would be easier. Many business and complex litigation courts in other states do have jurisdiction over difficult business tax cases. (What say you, tax profs?)

See Attorneys Push for Tax Court, Andy Peters, Daily Report (January 28, 2008). <--Yea! It's from the future!
