: court-o-rama.orgMay The Sun Shine Bright
By Anne Skove, Esq.
Once upon a time in Kentucky we were honored to be guests at a function at which the state song was sung.
Topping our Most Embarrassing Moments list: not knowing the words, except "oh the sun shines bright on my old Kentucky home!"
Proper etiquette prevented us from making up our own words, or explaining to the group that, being from Ohio, we were forbidden to learn this song in grade school.
But we do hope the sun shines bright(ly) on Chief Justice Lambert's future. The Chief has announced his retirement.
He has served in his position for a decade (and on the high court even longer), during which he led the statewide expansion drug courts (including family drug courts), establishment of the Office of Minority Affairs, promotion of ADR, and the building of several new courthouses. Bluegrass State courts have also begun a dramatic diversity initiative, working with several other groups (governmental and non-).
See also State's Chief Justice to Quit, Jack Brammer and Brandon Ortiz, Herald-Leader (April 25, 2008), and the lyrics (in case you're ever in that situation).
