Stimulating

By Anne Skove, Esq.

Need courthouse money? Federal projects around the country will benefit (hopefully) from stimulus money. Here are a few:

• Davenport, Iowa, seeks money to improve its federal courthouse. See Harkin: Federal Courthouse in Davenport to See Stimulus Money, Quad-City Times (April 1, 2009).
• Kansas federal courthouses will benefit. See Three Kansas City-area Federal Buildings Get Stimulus Money, Kansas City Business Journal (April 1, 2009).
• Montana hopes to get an asbestos-free courthouse out of the deal. See Stimulus Money Set Aside to Build New Courthouse in Montana, Mesothelioma & Asbestos Awareness Center (April 1, 2009), which notes that "asbestos abatement is often one of the most costly parts of any renovation or demolition project."
• Federal courthouses in Ohio -- most notably Columbus, which will get a greener building, and Cincinnati, with its Harper mural -- will get makeovers. See City's Fed Courthouse in Line for Stimulus Update, Business First of Columbus (March 30, 2009).
• El Paso, Texas, will get an energy-friendly courthouse. See U.S. Courthouse to Get Stimulus, Stephanie Sanchez, El Paso Times (April 2, 2009).

Similar projects may occur in California, Texas, and Virginia.
