Can justice be taught?
No, not in Utah anyway. Previously we noted that the Beehive State's justice courts were in for an overhaul.
The change wasn't what reformers had in mind. Rather than increase education requirements, the bill was amended to allow those with a high school diploma or GED to serve as justice court judges.
Other provisions of the bill stood untouched. Judges will be subjected to the dreaded performance review process, and will be nominated by a commission. The bill also set salary requirements, and mandates that courts use a case management and disposition recording system.
