NSSTA Makes Right Move on Certified Structured Settlement Consultant Program

By John Darer

ADVERTISEMENTS

The NSSTA has finally moved to erase any doubt about its Certified Structured Settlement Program, after discussions with officials from the University of Notre Dame about how the credential should be promoted. The program has been branded the "NSSTA CSSC Program" or "The National Structured Settlement Trade Association Certified Structured Settlement Consultant Professional Certification Program"

Members of the NSSTA and holders of the CSSC professional certification and the principals of their general agencies should be combing through their websites, LinkedIn listings and the like, to make sure they are no longer engaging in credential puffing or false advertising of the CSSC credential.

After two years of highlighting the problem meeting with general inaction, this author began to highlight the names of firms whose members engaged in micharacterization or misrepresentation of the credential. In addition a letter was sent to University of Notre Dame to make them aware of how the credential was being used which led to its officials reaching out to Joe Ricci at NSSTA.

There should be no excuse at this point that anyone promotes the CSSC as an Executive MBA program or in anyway decoupled from NSSTA. Ultimately the responsibility belongs with the companies on whose corporate websites that puffed credentials appear. Individuals are responsible for how the credential is referred to on LinkedIn or other social networking program.
