: The GavelCA Judge Will Step Down Over Misconduct
By Peter Hardin
Superior Court Judge Judge DeAnn M. Salcido of San Diego, California, accused by the State Commission on Judicial Performance of 39 instances of misconduct, will resign her judicial post and accept censure by the agency.
The judge accepted the censure “for a series of comments that were alternately mocking, rude and snarky to litigants, lawyers and court staff,” according to a San Diego Union-Tribune article.
One of the instances of agreed-upon misconduct involved Judge Salcido’s use of her courtroom “to audition for a hoped-for reality television show,” the newspaper said.
The judge was quoted as saying: ?While I understand that some of my comments from the bench were not favorably viewed by certain observers, the intention behind my less traditional style was to connect with the offenders, the victims, and others in the courtroom, to help effectuate positive change for the community.
