Louis Mirando New Osgoode Chief Law Librarian

The announcement that Louis Mirando has been appointed as Osgoode’s new Chief Law Librarian was made today by Dean Patrick Monahan:

I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Louis Mirando as
Osgoode?s Chief Law Librarian, effective March 1.

Mr. Mirando, who has a Master of Library Science degree from the University
of Toronto and has also done post-graduate studies at the University of
Cologne in Germany and at U of T, has provided outstanding leadership as
Director, Library Services at Torys LLP in Toronto for the past 15 years.
Prior to that, he held a variety of library-related positions including
Acting Library Manager at Aird & Berlis LLP, Reference Librarian at U of
T?s Bora Laskin Law Library, and Special Collections Librarian and
Instructor at the University of Western Ontario. He has also worked at
LexisNexis Canada and Carswell Legal Publications.

This international search attracted an exceptionally talented group of
candidates, and I am delighted with the appointment of Mr. Mirando. He is
extraordinarily conversant about current and emerging developments in legal
knowledge as well as the delivery of law library services. Along with the
10-member search committee, I am confident in his ability to provide
leadership to our law library, particularly as we embark upon major
renovations to the library as part of the overall rejuvenation of our
building.

Before joining us on March 1, Mr. Mirando will visit the Law School on
February 11, where he will meet with library staff and interested faculty
and students, and where I will introduce him to the community at Faculty
Council.

I wish to close by saying a special thank you to Yemisi Dina for serving as
Acting Chief Law Librarian over the past many months while the search
process was under way. She has provided stability and strong direction to
the law library, and I look forward to continuing to work with her in her
leadership role as Head of Public Services.
