ABA Project: Mediation in Criminal Matters

By David Badertscher, PLL

ADVERTISEMENTS
The Judicial Division and several other ABA entities are working together on a new project called ?Mediation in Criminal Matters.? This project aims to gather information about existing criminal mediation and dispute resolution programs and how they work, and to develop new mediation models to meet unmet needs -- unleashing a burst of creative problem-solving energy about dispute resolution in criminal law.

As a part of this project, data is being collected to identify mediation and other dispute resolution methods currently being utilized in the criminal justice system ? either through the courts, the prosecutor?s office, the public defender?s office, pretrial services, probation department, a community resource/organization, a law school clinic, a local bar association, or otherwise. Once collected, this information will be compiled and made available on-line in early 2008.
