"97% of Government Information is Now Online"

This post was written by Kim Walker: "For students and researchers interested in government information, online has long been the way to go. Since 1995 the federal government has made increasing amounts of information accessible on the Internet.  Now, over 97% of current publicly available government information is published online. 

The future of government information is being gradually unveiled at www.fdsys.gov. Maintained by the Government Printing Office (GPO), FDSys makes electronically accessible the Federal Register, the Code of Federal Regulations, the Compilation of Presidential Documents, Congressional Bills, Congressional Documents and Prints, the Congressional Record, the Congressional Directory, the Economic Report of the President, the Federal Budget, Public and Private Laws, and the United States Code, and many more. Patrons who have used GPO Access to find government data will see that site 'sundown' in late December, as all of the data has been migrated onto the FDsys platform. FDSys offers greater functionality than GPO Access, including the ability to search across multiple collections with keyword searches.  GPO promises that all the data in FDSys will remain freely electronically accessible..."
