: Legal Pad | LANavy to limit use of sonar in settlement
By Jason Siegel
The U.S. Navy agreed to limit where it uses sonar systems in their training, settling with environmentalists concerned about sonar harm to marine mammals, 10 News reported (here).
A policy analyst for the Natural Resource Defense Council told 10 News that the agreement "maintains the Navy's ability to test and train while shielding whales and other vulnerable species from harmful underwater noise."
The agreement limits low-frequency sonar use to military training areas near Hawaii and in the western Pacific Ocean.
