What's taken me offline

By Larry Bodine

ADVERTISEMENTS

Crazy busy, larry bodineI haven't updated this blog this week because I've been crazy busy. I've in a pressure cooker, which is something that many lawyers and marketers understand. It reminds me of college when I had 5 exams in one week. I have worked from 8 AM to 9 PM seven days in a row (I even worked till 1 AM twice). There's even a book on being crazy busy.

I read an article that said after age 50, people find their lives less stressful. Ha! I have been waiting for something like this to happen to me.

Here's what's taken me offline:

  • Writing a strategic business development plan for a firm.
  • Analyzing a law firm's website, and recommending specific changes, deletions and additions.
  • Presenting three webinars – one on how to grow a real estate practice, another on what you need to say to a potential client to win them over, and today, and a private webinar on business development for a law firm.
  • Speaking on 'Business Development in the Recovering Economy' at the annual convention of the Wisconsin State Bar and writing the cover article in the Wisconsin Lawyer Magazine on the same topic. (This is the state where I'm admitted as a lawyer. It was my dream as a young associate coming true.)
  • Meeting colleagues to team up with to create a broader variety of business development services.
  • Writing a reference work for a Canadian law firm on 'How to Target and Crack a Large New Business Account.'
  • Creating a live news feed on business development news and ideas.
  • Writing proposals tailored for particular law firms on how to get more clients and make more money.
  • Spending more time in airplanes than I think is healthy for the human body.
  • Writing new music for the singer-songwriter meetup I belong to.

Other than that I've been sitting on the porch gazing at the mountains and multitude of quails, cactus wrens, doves, woodpeckers, chipmunks and round-eared ground squirrels. (OK, that happened in my imagination. Would that it were true.)

The good news is that I've got a thick file folder of data, surveys, tactics and strategies that I'll write about in the coming days. Stay tuned.
