Do The “Numbers” Really Matter?

ADVERTISEMENTS

numbers.jpg

I have been spending the last few weeks watching and listening. Watching and listening to all of the talk about how to do all those things to improve your numbers.

The how to list is almost endless:

  • How to get more visitors
  • How to get more traffic
  • How to get more followers
  • How to get more comments
  • How to get more readers
  • How to get more subscribers
  • How to, how to and how to some more

It is tiring, nauseating at best.

What I want you to do is ask yourself a couple of key question.  Do those numbers really inspire me to keep writing?  Are you or your blog’s success measured by just numbers? And who will I be connecting with and hopefully selling my service or products too?

Let me assure you of one thing, Google is not going to connect with you nor buy from you. People do.

Should we pay attention to numbers on some level.  Yes, as I am not saying numbers are not important.  We do need to know on some level if our posts are getting traffic and read.  We need to know if people are being turned off by what we are doing on our blogs.  And we do want to have a conversation that grows on our blogs through comments.  But, don’t be so hung up on numbers you forget what is truly important.

Remember this.  Comparing yourself to numbers and to others will not make you or your site a success.  Connecting with your readers.  Connecting with your customers.  Connecting with your potential customers. Connecting with your target audience.  And actually making a sale or having a client retain you because of your site are part of what is important.

The other part of what is important might be this.  I want you to enjoy writing for your site. I want you to have fun blogging and providing content to your readers.  I want you to enjoy the process of listening to your audience and providing answers to their questions.

If you spend your time watching and worrying about numbers, you are going to miss the chance to truly connect.  And worse, you are going to drive yourself nuts and end up hating blogging and hating your site.

What are your thoughts on this?
