Weekend Off

OK, here's something that's not about a national quiz show or money: My mom was here all weekend and today, which meant I took an extra day off work and bummed around town with her, including trips to Dan's workplace and mine just to show Becca off (my co-workers had never met her.) Becca was a total ham at my office and ran around grinning and banging on empty water cooler jugs. She was a monster hit. The weekend was uneventful in that way it always is when my mom visits: We run errands, shop, chat, and relax, and I always have a cleaner apartment at the end (my microwave and refrigerator are now presentable!) and a general longing to get back to California someday.

We took a family trip to the huge outlet complex in Massachusetts, and my mom had to talk me into having multiple pairs of heels in the same color so I could get rid of some old and ugly shoes I was making do with. I am not good at shopping.

I was mostly happy that Becca was at her most charming and did all her  best "tricks" for my mom, including bringing books over to her and climbing into our laps again and again. I'd rather have my child start whining because I don't want to read her The Wheels on the Bus an eleventh time than because I wouldn't give her candy or show her a movie. She also likes eating lettuce, as we learned tonight. I have a funny kid.
