Last time Dan was on Jeopardy, he only got recognized a couple times in public, including by a bus driver who wanted to know why he was still bothering with mass transit. Ha! This time around, his fan base has been much more visible, and it's pretty awesome to watch. We just got back from the grocery store, where a student-looking guy not only stopped him to ask "Weren't you on Jeopardy?", but also asked, "So do you take down Larissa?" Love it. He got recognized on the subway and the bus last week, and last night at a dinner for a friend.
The #1 fan interaction, though, was this morning when he made a run to Whole Foods for milk. The guy behind the gelato counter beckoned him over, and then, like he knew a giant secret and didn't want to make a huge scene in the produce section, held up his hand and clicked a pretend buzzer while making a questioning face. Wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more? Are you the guy who, ah, (clicks button rapidly), know what I mean? Dan confirmed, making the gelato guy happy.
Two more days, and Dan's Jeopardy Days are over! (You know, until they have another Ultimate Tournament of Champions in 15 years.) Trust me, the finals is an absolutely killer match. Thanks for all the cheers!
