: [ Useless Dicta ]Return to the Real World
Once I got to work it was fabulous. It was great to see everyone again, I was shocked at how excited all of my coworkers were that I had returned to the office. I had a big welcome back card waiting for me on my desk in my new upgraded office (I used to have a cubical, new office doesn't have any windows but it's nice to have a door that I can close if need be). The upgraded office actually happens to be the one that belonged to Trivia Boy, but he's only in the office for one day a week if at all, so apparently he's getting booted out on my behalf. After catching up with everyone and settling into the new office it was time to dive in head first into a mountain of work that should keep me plenty busy until barzam results come out in mid-october.
My direct supervisor is a senior deputy DA and she is fantastic. She treats me like a daughter, in a good kind of way. She's a great person to work for, is a fantastic mentor, and is someone that is just one of the girls over lunch. While we were catching up today the drama that went down back in May came up in conversation. I mentioned to Supervisor that I was glad to be back for the couple of months that I have to wait for my barzam results, but that I also know that I need to be looking for other jobs in the meantime based on those conversations with the HR person back in May. Supervisor said that HR person was totally off base with what she told me and apparently in the few days after she gave me the info that I wasn't being considered for a full time position there were multiple emails exchanged between supervisor and the elected DA who makes the hiring decisions. According to supervisor, elected DA was actually impressed with me at the lunch meeting that we had back in May and that she is under the impression that things are looking good for me in terms of hopefully getting an offer (assuming of course I passed the barzam). I'm glad I didn't know any of this last week on the eve of the barzam because I think I would have been even more freaked out about the exam if I had known that a potential full time job was actually riding on passing.
In other news, as we were discussing the office arrangement and the fact that I was kicking Trivia Boy out of his space it came up that apparently Trivia Boy talks about me a lot at work. This worries my supervisor because she's not so fond of him. She's not sure why, and she said that he is of course perfectly nice and a good person to have on the team at work, but that she just can't put her finger on it, something is just off. Considering everything that happened the evening after the barzam her comments definitely made me pause to think for a moment. The more I pondered it the more it became clear in my sober state that she is totally right, something is off. He's getting over a very serious relationship, has a crush on one of my friends and recently had a fling with one of my best friends from law school. That right there is enough to raise multiple red flags. So despite the fact that my friends think we should be together and despite whatever happened last week, he's going to have to be nothing more than a friend at this point because he's not in a place where he can give me anything more, although he likely doesn't know that yet. Supervisor said it best today: "girl you're freaking fabulous, you shouldn't be settling for anything less, even if it is just for fun." And she is absolutely right. I am freaking fabulous. It's nice to have someone else remind you of that every once in a while.
