McCain's Conservative Radio Problem

By wt

ADVERTISEMENTS
I missed the entirety of the Republican debate. So I have no original wit to pass onto readers in that regard.

But I missed the debate because I was driving from San Francisco to Fresno, where I am now.

This isn't the south. This isn't even the southwest. It's California.

And the programs that are reaching AM radio here are lambasting McCain for immigration. Bill O'Reilly said there's not much he can do to win people over.

Michael Savage went farther and was calling him "John McClinton" and "Juan McCain." (Wow, the humor bar is especially low for these people).

But if I'm getting doses of these anti-McCain pitches in northern and central California, I guarantee McCain is getting hard throughout Redstate territory across the country. That means the solid south especially.

Granted, a race against Hillary will energize the conservative base. But I wouldn't count any southern state as firmly in McCain's column at this point. The anger is palpable.
