Sitting behind a keyboard, writing to y'all isn't very scary. If I'm in a sad mood but feel like the blog has been a depressing-suckhole-of-lame I can either not write or try to find something light hearted. I could tell you that I weight 100 pounds (I don't....) or that my hair is glorious. Ok fine, my hair is glorious. Sometimes. When I'm having a good hair day. What I'm saying is, here at the blog, I can edit what needs to be edited (which is often times simply my language...ladies, ladies). In person however, editing these feelings or what have you isn't so easy. If I'm in a bad mood, I can't edit that out all day. I can't weigh more or less or change my looks simply becuase I want to write it that way. I suppose what I'm saying, is here on the blog, as with most blogs, there is a certain amount of editing. Rose lighting. What have you.
Then, somewhere along the way, fellow blogger, Katie/La-a/Overflowing Brain & I started emailing. With our real email addresses. We became Facebook friends (my response: Oh my goodness your wedding was freaking GORGEOUS and so are you...her response: you are too pretty to be my friend....my response again: shut up gorgeous bride...don't you just love girls?!) and we emailed a lot. I even purchased a lot of awesomeness for a care package that of course is sitting in my entry way that I'm just giving up & giving to her in person. Which leads me to the next part of my point....
We've become real-life friends except we have never met in person. She is coming to Chicago in a little over a week (squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!) and staying on my couch (lovely couch that it is) and we are going to enjoy Chicago as much as the weather will let us. I'm pretty excited about her visit, except then, I had this thought.
What if all of our awesome email conversations translate to really awkward in person conversations? Oh man. That would be bad, no? What if one of is nothing like our email/blogging personality?
We talked on the phone for the first time the other night (I sound like a giggling schoolgirl talking about her first crush....) and I'm happy to report it wasn't awkward at all. BISMOW says he is going to send her an email warning her about my hunchback & crippled leg and tendancy to spit when I talk but I just gave him the look. But what if in person we just stare at each other? Like, "Dude you are not nearly as cool as your internet persona."
So I'm curious, has anyone ever had a pen-pal who they then met & it was awkward? Or a blog friend? Or a blind date? And, just in case her coming here really is awkward, what is the best way to get her out of my apartment before her flight home? (wink)
