Conversations Over Breakfast.....

By Tyler Larsen

ADVERTISEMENTS

Well I had an excellent opportunity to visit with professors one on one today. A student interest group put on a breakfast for the professors during which students were allowed to eat and talk with the professors. I got to talk with a couple of professors about international law. International law is one of my areas of interest.

Another interesting conversation came up in the hallway. One professor overheard me talking about Blogs. As the conversation progress I talked about how much attention Legal Blogs are getting. I told the professor that judges have cited blogs in their opinions. So I thought I better get a link up to Law X.O. The writers over at Law X.O have a great list of Legal Opinions that cite blogs. While blogs are not a primary authority, blogs do provide instant analysis of judicial opinions and legal theories. Blogs show a two sided view of the law. From one side you have the most current opinion of the law and on the other you have what the text books and courts say is law.

Blogs are being given more attention as time goes by. I tend to believe that blogs are good marketing strategy for individuals and law firms. Individuals can put there ideas out there for prospective law firms and clients to look at. Firms are asking their skilled writers and lawyer talent to write blogs on the behalf of the firm. A blog can provide value for a prospective client through a blog by talking about the services the firm offers.

You never know who will be reading or quoting your blog. Judges are reading them. Should you be reading them too?
