My cousin, who had Marfan Syndrome, lost his battle this week and died.

He was my sister's age and incredibly smart. Most of his life, he'd been sick and we knew this day was going to arrive at some point and it did. Life was touch and go most of the time and it was never easy when he got sick. This time, his body had enough.

He and I took apart a bicycle one time, the phone another, and kept our parents on their toes. We did put the bicycle and phone back together with no spare parts left. Gramma always made "fondue" since Chris hated gravy, but it was one in the same. As kids, we'd always get into mischief that never stopped. The schemes just grew more elaborate and carefully executed to avoid detection.

My uncle called today to tell me that Chris' wish was to have a party when he died and not an elaborate funeral. That lifted my spirits and the spirits of my entire family. His ashes will be scattered at a later date and a party will be had at a later time.

I like that.

Chris, your heart is whole now. Go surfing on Steamers Lane by the Lighthouse. I'll feel your presence in the wind, the salty ocean air coming off Monterey Bay, and your laughter in sounds of the waves.

I'll miss you terribly.
