Caution: Law Students & Exams (LS Tidbits #11)

By shell

ADVERTISEMENTS

With the final exams fast approaching, I thought I might offer a few words of encouragement.

  • Studying is a personal experience.  Do what works for you.
  • Avoid places where other law students gather.  (e.g. law library and other popular hangouts).
  • Walk away when other law students brag about their outlines and how hard they are studying.  For all you know they have a 50-page outline filled with worthless details.
  • Do not panic.  Study piece by piece, section by section.  With proper time management, you will be able to learn the necessary rules by the time you take the exam.
  • Do not overstudy.  The quantity of time spent staring at a book is not as helpful as the quality of time understanding and applying the rules.
  • When studying, start out with the big picture (what are the issues), list the relevant rules/law, and apply the facts to the relevant rules/law (hint: arrange in chronological order).
