Burdens of proof

ADVERTISEMENTS
My doctor charged me for two co-pays yesterday. One of them, from a visit in October, I know I paid with my debit card, so that's fine. However, I am 100% certain I paid the one in August in cash. (Why it is just now being charged to my account is beyond me, but their shoddy bookkeeping is not my problem).

I no longer have my reciept for this transaction because hell, it took place in AUGUST and I don't think I envisioned needing to keep the damn thing for this long. Should I call them and dispute the charge? It's only $30, but at the same time, that's $30 and I live on student loans. You know? If I call and dispute the charge, is it my burden to show alternate payment, or their burden to show a signed charge slip?

See, law school makes you weird. 3 years ago I would have never thought of all this crap.
