2008: The Year of Adam

ADVERTISEMENTS
I hate to copy Joe, but technically last year was the year of Joe, and what a great year it was for him. I also had a fairly good year though.

Spring 07 was the busiest semester of my life (read about it here). My summer was unfortunately lame with a few important exceptions (here and here). This semester was probably my lowest profile semester, due to a combination of already having a job (therefore no need killing myself to impress someone) and catching a general case of 3L itis. However, there were some very important moments, including passing my physical for the Navy, meeting my man Mitt Romney, being commissioned, making the semi-finals in our moot court competition, kicking it in the NYC, kicking it in Utah, passing the MPRE, and of course matching wits with Dennis Prager.

Despite a rather eventful 2007, 2008 seems to have the potential to be the Year of Adam because of all of the potential milestones.

First, 2008 contains my last semester as a law student. The JAG Corps does offer opportunities to go back and get an LLM later, but for all intents and purposes, the leisurely time of free pizza, going to the gym at my leisure and studying from case books (and studying anything full time like have essentially my entire life) comes to a merciful end. I'm going to do my best to make it count. Graduating from law school is a very important milestone.

Second, The Bar. Few words illicit more anxiety among law students, especially in California, which is notoriously difficult to pass. The passage rate for July takers (February bar passage rate is much lower) usually hovers at about 50%, though this past July passage rate had a surprising bump up to 56.1 %, the highest rate in 7 years. I'm sure I'll have many more thoughts on the bar later, but for now, this is the most important test I'll ever take. Passing it (I'll find out in November), will also be an important milestone. Failure won't be the end of the world (the Navy gives you two bites at the apple) but failure would not be great.

Third, Officer Indoctrination School. Going to 'officer boot camp' in October will be the beginning of my military career. Doesn't get bigger than that.

Graduating from law school, passing the bar and starting my career, as well as many other milestones will truly make 2008 the Year of Adam.

On with the show.
