KY FAMILY LAW: "Atheist father sues to keep son out of St. X"

By Michael Stevens

ADVERTISEMENTS

The following story is legally interesting but must be an emotional nightmare as a young boy's parents who are divorced but with joint custody fight over his attendance at a Catholic school.  The minor has attended Catholic schools for some time, wants to attend St. X, and his mother is raising him Catholic.  Mother wishes for her son to attend St. Xavier High School. However, the father is an atheist and is going to court to require he attend another school and per the story, the father states "Kentucky Country Day or South Oldham High School would be better for his son".

The mother is represented by Sandra Ragland with Diana Skaggs and Associates.  Diana authors the Divorce Law Journal and has remained mum and is making no remarks on this news story which is consistent with the practice followed by most law bloggers and that is not to comment or post on existing cases they are involved in until final, and then still they may remain mum!).

The Family Court Judge is Tim Feely from Oldham County.

Here's the story from the Courier Journal by Andrew Wolfson:

As a practicing Catholic whose eighth-grade son, Michael, has always attended parochial schools, Susan Bisig says it would be best for him to attend St. Xavier High School. His father disagrees.
