: Lenz BlogClosing category ?Google-Free Zone?
By Karl-Friedrich Lenz
I have just now updated the “About” page of this blog to change the license to a standard Creative Commons “Attribution-NoDerivs”. Until now, I had my own license that specifically gave no rights whatsoever to Google, as part of the category “Google-Free Zone” on this blog. I am closing that category now.
That category started in 2005, because I was angry about Google’s privacy record. Here is a link to the category at the old blog (before 2006). And here it is at this one.
The biggest reason for closing this category is that my interest is now focused on energy issues, so I need to weed out some of the old stuff.
The immediate reason for my strong feelings about the issue is already settled as well. The fight about Internet surveillance in European law was lost.
Another reason for closing this categery is that Google clearly pays much more attention to privacy now than back in 2005.
