3L All Done, and Thank You!

ADVERTISEMENTS
First off, I will do an overall reflection of law school after graduation, but I want to reflect on 3L just for this entry.

I must say that finishing up the last year of law school has definitely been bittersweet. On the one hand, who isn?t excited to be all done? Seriously! After the year that they bore you to death, you just can?t wait to get out and get to work. However, back I n January, my first year buddy asked me how does it feel to be almost done. To her I said to the effect that, while I can?t wait to finish, I am going to enjoy being a law student for these last few months because after this, the law student card is put away forever (unless I do an LL.M., which I do not plan on ever doing, but never say never I guess).

Third year was the homestretch. It?s not exactly hitting a homerun and jogging to home base (because there are no guarantees in any year of law school), but I guess it was more of hitting a good ball outfield and the outfielder is a slow runner and not the best thrower; you think you are safe making it run, but still can?t help but keep overlooking your shoulder to see the outfielder got the ball yet and was ready to try and get you out. In third year, I still did not want to say or make anything bold until I was sure that I was graduating (law school confession; I am very superstitious on occasion, but Mi?kmaw culture usually entails this).

All that aside, in third year, they say that they bore you to death, which I sadly must agree with. I think after the 2L ass-kicking that I got, I seriously thought that 3L would be a breeze, yet I found myself fighting off boredom and fighting to stay motivated. But I made it through somehow (law school confession; I believe in miracles).

Not to brag (trust me; I really don?t like to do such a thing), but if I can be guilty of the sin of pride, then I must say it is definitely because of the yearbook. I was not a fan of my undergrad yearbook (mainly due to the same clique of friends being on every page), so I wanted a better one for law school. But since we did not have one, I was elated when my co-editor and I got together and produced one (along with our great staff). Maybe I am being biased, but my fellow students have been some of the greatest people that I have ever met in my life, and as such, I wanted to make the yearbook as sort of my gift to them to remember our times at Weldon High. Third year was just a great friendly reminder of how awesome my fellow students are.

The other stand-out thing for me for third year (although not really law related) is all the weight loss I managed to pull off. By April of last year, I was up to 260 pounds, the heaviest that I have ever been, no doubt to due the depression that I went through. I must say that it feels great to have lost so much of that since last year.

Well that aside, maybe the ?bore you to death? hit The Co-co Banana a bit. All I want to say that it was a great 3L: produced a yearbook; managed to ace a few courses (first time for everything); lost lots of weight; found a passion for the law and life again; gained my confidence back; and most of all, just being with great people. Thank you to my fellow students of Dalhousie Law School, and I will see you at Convocation.
